Apricot orchard harvests begin Saturday June 13
Get ready for the Village Harvest version of the "fast and furious!" Apricots are ripening with the recent heat, and after visiting many heritage orchards in the last week we have announced orchard harvests beginning Saturday June 13 and continuing through Wednesday, June 24. The Season Sign Up link in a volunteer newsletter sent on Wednesday June 10 and below.
Update Friday 6/12: That was fast! Thanks to tremendous interest all openings at the 8 planned apricot orchard harvests are now filled and we cannot accept additional sign ups. If we're able to schedule additional harvests they'll be announced through the Volunteer Newsletter and posted on the web calendar.
For safety reasons in virus times the number of volunteer openings per harvest will be reduced. Since there are always many people who want to participate in our apricot harvests this year we're trying something different: a Season Sign Up sheet for all planned harvests at once. Volunteers can check off all harvests they are willing to participate in, and the orchard coordinator select one event from your choices while trying to fit every interested volunteer into one harvest.
As always, apricot amounts and timing vary greatly across the Valley of Heart's Delight. This year the crop is very light in our Palo Alto and Los Altos Hills orchard locations, light in north San Jose orchards, and abundant at new orchards in the Saratoga and Los Gatos area.
